EAGLES LOSE RIVALRY GAME; 97-74, Jan. 31
For their fourth WSL game and third straight road game, the Eagles traveled to Caruthers High School to take on the Blue Raiders. Both teams were undefeated in league play going into the game, but at the end of the night only one team could remain that way.
Both teams came out with great intensity knowing the importance of this game. The Eagles came out and held an early advantage, but after a Blue Raider time out, their opposition came storming back, hitting multiple long shots from three-point land. At the end of the first quarter Caruthers had the advantage on Fresno Christian 20-30. In the second quarter, the Eagles kept their composure and started to chip away at the lead. By hitting their free-throws and playing solid defense, FC was able to bring it to within four points at halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the game became more physical and even more intense than the first half. Both teams stepped up their games and came out with a purpose. However, with Caruthers being the home team, once they stretched their lead they had momentum on their side that the Eagles had a hard time dismantling. Caruthers was able to extend their lead to over fifteen points by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, Caruthers continued to hit threes and keep momentum on their side as they managed to extend their lead even more. When the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles had lost 97-74.
For Caruthers, Kush Thind lead the way scoring 33 points for the Blue Raiders. Brandon Waltrip also contributed with 25 points of his own. On the other side of the court, the Eagles were lead by Trevor Beal and Brian Scott, scoring 20 and 16 points repectively.
Head coach Robbert Hubbard was please with the effort of the team, and looks forward to playing the team again on senior night.
“Although we lost, it was a great high school basketball game.” Hubbard said. “Both teams played extremely hard and it was very exciting to be a part of. We beat them once and now they’ve gotten us. We have some work to before we play them again, but hopefully when we play them next it’ll be to clinch a league championship. We have to clean up some things in our half-court offense, but I’m confident that we’ll be ready.”
The Eagles next game will be at home in Feb. 4 as the team will play the Fowler Redacts.
