EAGLES DOMINATE IN WIN, March 14
For the Eagles fourth game of the season, they hosted the Tranquility Tigers at home in a non-league matchup. It would be the second time the two teams have played each other this season; the first match was won by the Eagles and they were looking for a similar result this time around.
Junior Dillon Owens again took the mound for the Eagles in his third start of the season. After a quick 1-2-3 first inning, the Eagles came up to bat. The Tigers were without their ace right-hander and a few other key players due to the school’s Sadie Hawkins dance later that evening, so many Tranquility players were forced to play new roles throughout the game. As a result, the Eagles were able to get on base quickly and easily with the inexperienced pitcher on the mound. They were walked multiple times and was able to bring home runs. FC led after the first inning 7-0.
Owens stayed on the mound until the fourth inning when he was replaced by homeschooler George Castro, ’17. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles continued to bring across runs in steady chunks even with most of their second string in the game. Senior David Ryu replaced Castro in the seventh inning to close the game as the Eagles won comfortably 15-1.
Senior Caleb Nale said it was a fun game, but would have liked it more had the game been closer.
“It’s always fun to win,” Nale said, “but when you face a team that’s not very good it can sometimes get boring. Regardless we have to stay focused on the rest of the season ahead of us because we still have a long way to go if we want to reach our goals as a team.”
The Eagles are now 4-0 overall including a 3-0 record at home. They look to improve on that record as they play agian on Wednesday, March 19 against Coalinga High School on the FC field.
