This year’s class colors present the epitome of misrepresentation. Class colors create a sense of pride and competition between the classes. In leadership’s choice of this year’s colors, on Aug. 17, they undermined these fundamentals and flaunted a lack of common sense.

For the last two years the senior class coveted the color blue, a color seniors often wore on accident due to its common presence in wardrobes. Yet, this year leadership forfeited this honor to the freshman class.

The senior class did manage to salvage a shred of dignity in their choice of green. On the other hand, the sophomore and junior class leaders humiliated themselves with their choice of yellow and orange.

Leadership clearly chose yellow and orange on impulse, as they contain no practical value. That these colors only compliment certain pigments will result in a narrower range of participants.

For example, leadership’s barbeque on Aug. 22, attempted to promote class colors by promising free Popsicles for any wearing their class colors. To no one’s surprise participation achieved minimal levels and many Popsicles remained uneaten.

Students made their unwillingness to purchase additional clothing for the sake of school spirit clear. Students will not wear colors not in their possession, or purchase clothing of an unflattering shade.

Regardless of their intentions, sophomore and junior leadership members accomplished nothing more than handicapping their respective class participation. The campus’s first rally, on Aug. 29, confirmed this set back.
