The December online article “”Heritage, traditions create Christmas meaning”” by Brianna Stobbe disappointed me. Not her article but the idea that many students did not include Christ as the reason for the season.
One interviewed student said she enjoys the food and coffee at Christmas time, but never mentions Christ coming down to earth in order to offer himself as a Savior for the sins of the world. As the old song goes, “”You can’t spell Christmas without Christ.””
It seems that most students on campus are aware that Jesus is the reason for the season but we often remember the “”traditional, historic event”” as an afterthought. Most of us remember the large feast on Christmas or the bounty of presents in stockings or under the tree.
Without Jesus and his gift of life, the Christmas season would fail to exist.
Many students at Fresno Christian grew up with the Christmas story shared each year. I hope that as we grow older, the true meaning does not drift from our memory.
