For the fall concert and their first festival of the year, the campus choral groups performed three songs, one of which included a solo from junior Tyler Combs, center.
During the concert choir’s performance of “This Little Light of Mine,” Combs sang his solo to an audience of students and parents in the G.L. Johnson Chapel of Peoples Church, Oct. 13.
“I am very proud of the performances the choirs gave this week,” choral director Aaron Bryan said. “Both performances were full of passionate music-making. The students were focused and unified in their purpose.”
Both the ensemble and concert choir later attended the Fresno Pacific University (FPU) Choir Festival at the Campus Bible Church to be critiqued by adjudicators. Schools from across the county were in attendance, Oct. 16.
?I like choir because the people are really outgoing and Mr. Bryan is funny,? Brianne Ainley, ’11, said. ?I love singing and performing, so choir was a good alternative to musicals.
“‘David?s Lamentation’ is my favorite song because it was really cool and not what people expected; it is sort of creepy. It is different than what other choirs sing and it caused tension in the room.?
After their opening selection, the ensemble sang “Muie Rendera” by Brazilian songwriter C.A. Pinto Fonseca.
?I like ‘Muie Rendera’ because it is fun to sing and it sounds exotic,? sophomore Zach Camden said. ?It is challenging, so it?s not boring; it keeps us on our toes. Choir and ensemble are fun because, despite the seriousness of it all, we do fun stuff outside of school and it is a nice group of people.?
Bryan was upbeat the morning after the festival and pleased with the students’ performance and attitude.
“The students represented FC proudly at the FPU festival both on stage with their dedication to the music, but off stage as well with their encouragement and support of all schools participating,” Aaron said.
