Preparing to lift, senior Scott Yantis, right, warms up his body before hitting the weights. The students in the fifth period conditioning class makes sure that their bodies are ready and stretched in preparation for the lifting.
According to football coach and teacher Mick Fuller, weightlifting can be dangerous to do alone.
“Weightlifting should be done in groups or with an experienced person as to prevent injury,” Fuller said. “Weightlifting can potentially be dangerous to your body; therefore, you should have a physical done by a doctor to determine how much your body can endure.”
Despite these potentially dangerous warnings, experience and focus help keep a lifter from danger.
“Though there is always a risk of injuring while working out,” Fuller said, “with a trainer or coach assisting you, the benefits of working out greatly exceed the dangers.”
