As the lights went down and the silhouette of John Mayer materialized on stage, the anticipation and excitement sparks flew around the venue. Thousands of fans experienced his funny faces and his undeniable talent on Feb. 22 at Fresno State’s new Save Mart Center.
Mayer set the tone with “Back to you”, a song from his album, Room for Squares, and a perfectly planned set list to follow. He debuted a new addition to his extensive collection of musical genius, “Hummingbird,” which received a roar of applause from the fans.
As he rocked through his set list, the energy that filled the Save Mart Center was incredible. Mayer’s band featured a trumpet, saxophone and electric flute to enhance the sound. This truly made the concert more interesting and added musical diversity.
Many students from campus attended the concert and came away very excited.
“John Mayer kept my attention throughout the whole concert,” Michelle Nachtigal, ’04, said. “His talent is so entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed his concert.”
Since I prefer the sound resonating inside the cavities of my body- the volume was just not loud enough for me. I also didn’t get to meet John Mayer, I did not receive back-stage passes, and it eventually ended?major disappointment.
The concert was a great display of musicianship and, in my opinion, the jam session of the year. Thank you John Mayer for your talent, and most of all for coming to humble little Fresno.
