Running out into the Ground Zero quad with a vuvuzela in his hand and a smile on his face, junior Josh Hopper leads an unexpected flash mob to the song “Waka Waka” by Shakira during the lunch period, March 1.
Although Hopper was the only one dancing for the first 30 seconds of the song, all of the Spanish Club students soon joined him in the flash mob organized by the club members.
“I led the dance because at the beginning of the year I won a silly drawing game in Spanish Club and had to dance in the front of all the kids,” Hopper said. “They thought it was hilarious, so I was named Shakira and made the ‘club dance leader.'”
Hopper encouraged other confused students to have fun and join the dance session even though they did not fully understand what was going on.
“The reason I did it was because I’ll remember it for a long time. I’ll be able to tell my friends about it if I get old. Hopefully, I created a memory for some people,” Hopper said. “Maybe I helped brighten their lunch or at least distracted them from their daily woes. I might have even inspired a few people to get their groove on when they get home.”
