Fresno Christian boys soccer team will begin their league play on January 12. Their first game of the season against Minarets High School will be the first of the 2015-16 season. The 2014-15 Eagles team went 1-1-8.

Despite how the team’s last season went, Coach Matthew Markarian is excited for league and believes that the team has improved since last year. However, Coach Markarian still recognizes a need for improvements in his team.

“We need to improve our defensive discipline and our finishing in front of goal. We create plenty of chances, it is up to us to take advantage of those chances.”

Markarian believes that this year’s team is in the running for a playoff run and a good chance at the Valley championship. He believes that his team has what it takes to win.

Senior Andrew Moore has been playing soccer and has seen how many seasons have unfolded for the FC Boys. Like Markarian, Moore believes that this team can make it far. Last season, the team experienced its first win in years and Moore recognizes that as a crucial step for becoming a winning team. Also, taking home second place at Garces Soccer Tournament, caught the senior’s attention for how good the team could be.

I’m excited for league to start soon because of the progress we’ve made as a team. This year we’ve made enough progress to stand a chance against the tough teams in league. We have a chance as a team to have a very successful season.”

The team is currently 2-4 in preseason and is approaching a ten game league season. With one win and one draw last season, the team has their minds set on improving and making this a memorable year after the past droughts.

Senior captain Bailey Brogan believes in his team after seeing its performance in preseason. Brogan sees the team as being ahead of where he thought they would be at this point.

“We have one a couple games and have come close to winning a few tournaments. I feel as if we are a couple steps ahead of where we have been.”

The first league contest will be against Minarets High School. In the previous season, the teams met twice and went even both winning a game. For a full schedule of the upcoming season for FC Boys Soccer click here.
