Sharon Scharf’s home economics classes sent 24 dozen chocolate chip cookies to the 11th Public Affairs Attachment in Bagram, Afghanistan, in mid October. The treats were sent in care of Maj. Adam Hallmark, a very good friend of Sharon Scharf’s son-in-law.
Scharf had posted pictures on her Facebook page, telling about the cookie making, and Maj. Hallmark, in turn posted it on their unit page, so all the soldiers could see where the cookies came from.
The cookies only took five days to get to the American base, and according to Maj. Hallmark, were moist and delicious. He said, “The soldiers dove into them with vigor! Some of our servicemen and women never receive any mail at all, so to receive packages from complete strangers shows them they are loved and appreciated.”
Scharf said FC classes have been sending cookies to soldiers overseas since the U.S. military first went into Afghanistan 10 years ago.
