Dear editor,
“Club empowers young readers” by Mary Kneefel touched me. This Oct. 5 online article, about Book Buddies tells the reader about the extraordinary experiences for high school and elementary students alike. To read about the differences my peers make in younger students’ lives just astounds me.
The quotes given by high school students really made me want to join Book Buddies. Andrew Kaiser said in the article, “It is a really cool feeling you get when you give up your lunch to read to a kid. The minute he sees you he gets this big smile on his face, and runs to pick out his favorite book.”
Once a week my sixth grade buddy read me a story, and I looked forward to spending time with her. So, I know how much these children appreciate the “big” kids donating their time to be with them.
Overall I found this an excellent piece, and even feel like joining Book Buddies next year. For future reference I’d recommend more stories or past experiences from Book Buddies to share with the reader.
