With graduation fast approaching, senior parents are scrambling to put the traditional ?grad night? party together. In order to raise some much-needed funds, Ellen King, teacher and the parent of a senior, organized an all-school garage sale held on April 2.
The garage sale promised a large influx of funds, needed to supplement money already raised through on-campus barbeque lunches. All proceeds went to help create what parents hope will be the seniors? most memorable night.
Grades 1-12 were invited to participate in the sale, which took place at the campus tennis courts on April 2. The sale commenced at 7:00 A.M. and ended at 2:00 P.M.
Items for sale ranged from large selections of men?s, women?s and children?s clothes, office/home furniture, sports equipment, toys, books, movies and English teacher Molly Sargent?s infamous pink bathtub. All unsold items were donated to the Salvation Army.
The garage sale made a total of about $1500, which was $500 short of the desired goal. Still, the funds raised will greatly aid the Grad-Nite Committee.
Students were drafted to help run the garage sale.
?Working at setting up the garage sale was an experience,? Dori Richardson, ?05, said. ?It was neat to get to know some of my fellow seniors better as we worked together.?
King also felt that the sale was a success.
?We had a great school and community response,? King said. ?We sold the majority of the items by 8:00 A.M. Lots of students stood out on Cedar Avenue with signs to flag people down. There was a steady flow of people until about 11:00 A.M.
The Grad-Nite Committee are currently seeking new items and/or cash gifts to be used as door prizes at the Grad-Nite party, which is held immediately after graduation.
?Donations are always welcome!? King said.
