In what turned out to be one of the closest competitions for Homecoming floats, the juniors created enough on-float realism to hold down bragging rights as the best Homecoming float. The float, patterned after TV Land’s sitcom, Gilligan’s Island, created a Hollywood-like reproduction of the show during half time’s Homecoming on Nov. 2 at Clark Stadium in Clovis.
All four classes participated in the annual float building competition. This year the theme was TV Land sitcoms. Each class chose a show and built a float based on their favorite show. The freshman created a float based upon the 1950s-style Happy Days; the sophomores built a float with the long-running Vietnam based M*A*S*H* show; and the seniors used the Beverly Hillbillies to fashion ideas for their float.
Each class voted on which show to use, planned and created their floats on their own with a minimum of parental or adult help. The idea is to create a themed float on their own. The floats were presented at half time along with the high school marching band and the queen/princess pageant.
