Softball leaders find personal growth

Attempting to hit a small ball with a wooden stick while preparing to run around in circles to where arrive back at the beginning may seem like a pointless escapade. Yet, to other?s sports offer an outlet for personal growth.

Lindsey Brush,?06, believes softball gives her more than just an activity to do after school. She claims it has helped to shape her life.

?I have played softball since I was six,? Brush said. ?When I was younger, playing softball was just a game. Now it has become a opportunity for a higher education.?

Brush?s hard work put into every game has given her enjoyment, and an average of ten-strike outs.

?Lindsey is a dominant pitcher? Robert Foshee, softball coach, said. ?She keeps improving with all her hard work.?

Brush hopes softball will continue to be a part of her life. She has been hoping to recieve a scholarship to attend the University of California in Los Angeles [UCLA] or Fresno State.

?I love the game of softball,? Brush said. ?It is fun and I hope to continue my career and get a college scholarship.?

Senior Hillary Kell has also used this season to perfect her skills. She has had the opportunity to will All League player three times this year. Kell has played tennis, basketball and softball throughout her four years of high school.

?I have been playing sports since I could walk,? Kell said. ? I feel honored to be recognized amongst some of the best athletes in three different sports.?

Kell reflects upon her years of high school sports as experiences that have helped her to grow into a better person.

?Playing sports has given me a lot of character building,? Kell said. ?Because of my dad, I have gotten this far. He has always pushed me to play my best and not just be mediocre.?

Similar to Kell, Brush finds her inspiration for athletic achievements to be in her family.

?I think the person that has influences me the most would be my dad,? Brush said. ?He really helps me and encourages me to play my best.?
