The sixth grade honors the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department during their Thanksgiving Pie party, Nov. 18. Each student wrote encouraging letters to the department and to Officer Toamalama Scanlan, an injured FC football coach.
Lieutenant McCoy and Corporal S. Gee visited during the celebration and were honored with letters from the students, which were written prior to the event. The party was put on by the parents and room mom, Kristina Saelzler, who felt led to do so by God.
“I wanted to do something meaningful to help the kids look outside themselves and be aware of the service and sacrifice on their behalf everyday,” Saelzler said.” I knew it would be hard to go out in the community so I wanted to invite the officers to the party. We are very thankful for the sheriffs attendance and the students were very excited to work on the letters of appreciation. The parents didn’t want it to be traditional, we wanted to stir up a habit for the kids to give thanks.”
