Dozens of cookies for seniors

Sheet after sheet of dough go in and out of the ovens as precise measurements are made and added to the mixtures. Smiles seem to conceal the flour on hands, faces and shirts during the ?mandatory? taste tests.

This year the home economics class has decided to make a special treat for Grandparent?s Day on Sept. 9. Students have been working for over a week to prepare 100 dozen assorted cookies for any of the special guests who want them.

?We?re making all these cookies for Grandparent?s Day,? Justin Bridges, ?08, said. ?I originally signed up for home economics so I could eat the food, but now I really enjoy it because it?s actually fun.?

The grandparents were grateful for the little treats too.

?The cookies not only look appetizing, but taste very good as well,? Harvey Pipkin, Christiana Cabias?, ?07, grandpa said. ?I?m glad I came because I got to visit my grandkids, and have a good meal too.?

The students enjoyed all the baking and took it as a learning experience.

?The cookies were really fun to make, but even better to taste,? Alisa Reynolds, ?07, said. ?I?m glad I learned how to bake them because my mom doesn?t make cookies, so now I can do it.?

All around everyone, including their teacher, thought it was a good time.

?I had a lot of fun with the students making the six kinds of cookies,? Sharon Sharf, home ec. teacher, said. ?My favorite ones are the double chocolates because they are like round brownies.?

The baking of the cookies is not all for fun, the class decided to put their efforts to a good cause.

?We decided to take all the left over cookies and sell them at the Immanuel game on Sept. 9,? Scharf said. ?All the proceeds will be sent to the hurricane relief fund, I think it?s a great way to offer our help.?
