Genders battle for title

[/media-credit] The upcoming rally will be broken up in to genders, rather than the traditional classes.

Leadership will host the first FC rally of 2017, Jan. 27, in the gym at 2:30 p.m. The theme is Gender Battles.

Instead of sorting into groups based on classes, the student body will separate into two teams: boys and girls. Boys are asked to wear blue, and girls to wear pink.

Rally director Roman Endicott, ‘18, believes the rally will be familiar to students who have attended in the past.

“It will still follow the same structure [as previous rallies],” Endicott said. “Cheer will do a routine; we will recognize the sports teams and compete in games to determine a winner.”

New student games include carrying jello between two buckets, a ‘straw game’, where players create one long straw out of normal-sized ones to drink water, and trivia. Prizes for winning are Sugar Daddies for boys and Ring Pops for girls.

The winter sports receiving recognition are boys’ varsity basketball, soccer, junior varsity basketball, girls’ varsity basketball and soccer.

Some students have not enjoyed participating in previous rallies. Senior Sage Sobrado has been disappointed by rally activities chosen.

“The upcoming rally doesn’t really make me that excited,” Sobrado said. “The games are usually boring, and I don’t think the boys vs. girls theme will be very interesting.”

For others, like Angelica Escalera, ’19, the varied rally themes provide a refreshing change of pace.

“I feel like rallies are something fun the high schoolers can do as a temporary distraction from school,” Escalera said. “The theme is something new, because we normally do the same class teams every time we have a rally, so the boys vs. girls is a good change.”
