College Funding Night navigates aid solutions

College funding does not have to be stressful. While students are often oblivious to the essential financial requirements for college, funding solutions can help ease the first step towards college application.

A College Financial Aid funding night will be held on Oct 4 at 7 P.M. in the Jackie Johnson room of Building 6. Mark Fisher, college funding specialist from the National College Funding Organization, will be directing and teaching this meeting.

?It is very important for both parents and students to attend this night,? Fisher said. ?Most people do not understand even the basics of financial aid; this meeting will help parents learn how to save and navigate their money dealing with financial aid.?

Students who plan on attending believe this night will be beneficial.

?I definitely think that going to this meeting is important,? Katrina Stevenson, ?06, said. ?I believe it will teach me some important ways to save money for college.?

Mark Fisher especially encourages sophomore and junior parents to consider his presentation.

Many students plan on applying for the FAFSA, which is an application for federal student aid.

?This meeting will teach parents about the big picture of financial aid,? Jon Endicott, associate principal, said. ?It is a wholistic approach where the main focus is to sit down with parents and educate them on how to use and fill out the FAFSA.?

Whether students need help filling out the FAFSA form or applying for the Cal Grant or have other questions regarding financial aid, this may be the night for you.

?Hopefully each person will walk away having learned some very important information, Fisher, said, “and will take the next step in using this service.?
