Lindsay Weimer’s chapel perspective

Lindsay would often miss school because of the treatments. Occasionally she would face time a friend so that she could listen into chapel that day.

Campus sophomore Lindsay Weimer experiences Thursday’s worship chapel via FaceTime, Aug. 31.

Weimer now studies independently as she undergoes chemotherapy treatments. Diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma late in the summer, she spent the last month in preparation for treatment. With an end goal of returning back to the soccer pitch and choir, Weimer endures many grueling procedures.

A hope to return to the girl’s ensemble, “Bellezza,” and a drive to lead songs for the worship teams at school and at her church, provides her motivation.

Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare cancerous tumor that develops in soft tissue, causes pain and discomfort in her hip. These symptoms became evident to Weimer during the soccer season of her freshman year, as her hip pain returned off and on. Through an MRI, CT Scan and biopsy, she was officially diagnosed with cancer.

In a letter directed towards friends and family curious about the physical state of his daughter, her father, campus fourth grade teacher, Matthew Weimer, tied the biblical truth of his God to his family’s situation.

It is not strange that we hurt,” Matthew said. “What feels strange is that by choosing to rejoice in that suffering, we are being made more and more like him. He will not forget us, or the promises he has made to us, the same promises he made to Abraham, and despite how it feels, this illness does nothing to negate his faithfulness. He is our rock.”

For the time being, Lindsay will go through chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Her family, friends, and classmates continue to pray for her complete healing.

According to the Weimer family, their peace and confidence to persevere comes from their faith, knowing that Lindsay has a story to tell. A story that gives hope, which includes confidence that their God will never leave them or forsake them.
