Students celebrate free day at beach

Over 260 students filled the small town of Cayucos on Sept. 21 during the fifth annual beach trip. Many of the students were very excited about the trip in hopes their team would be victorious at their football game.

“I thought our students behaved well on the beach trip,” Ginger Niemeyer, vice principal, said. “They reflected Christian attitudes while on the trip.”

Troy Larkin, manager of the well visited Schooner’s restaurant in Cayucos agreed with Niemeyer.

“The students brought a lot of lunch business,” Larkin, said. “They were great and very well behaved.”

While in Cayucos many of the students visited nearby by shops, restaurants, and the beach. While on the beach students played football, ultimate octopus and enjoyed the cool weather and sand. While some stayed at the beach other students took their time to get better acquainted with their friends and explore the town.

“I really enjoyed the beach, it was a great bonding time for all of us,” Lauren Taylor, ’03, said. “It was a great spending time with my friends and cheering on our team.” The students not only enjoyed the beach but they also enjoyed the football game.

“At other schools football games you usually hear negative things being said from one team to the other,” Katie Ettner, ’05, said. “But at this game our school still cheered on out team without putting the other team down.”

The varsity football team defeated Coast Union 66-12, and JV won 46-0.

“This year we played a good game,” Casey Belmont, ’02, said. “It was the first year in my three years of attending the beach trip that we won the game.” Other players shared Belmont’s enthusiasm.

“We finally won a game while on the beach trip,” Rusty Tucker, ’04, said. “It was exciting to score my first touchdown.”

FC’s 66 points and margin of victory were both records for the football team who next play Firebaugh on Sept. 28 at Clark Stadium in Clovis at 5:30 p.m.
