A teacher leaving the classroom midyear seems odd for a high school, but such was the case for the Advance Placement biology class the end of November.
Marvin Harms has taken a leave of absence from his teaching position to have a long- needed back operation. Filling his position for the time being is Annette Sarkissian.
Sarkissian, who taught physical science, biology, and geometry two years ago, left campus on maternity leave. Now she has returned to teach another science class.
?I enjoy working at Fresno Christian,? Sarkissian said. ?I also missed teaching.?
Principal Gary Schultz, who has been looking for weeks for a replacement teacher, finally settled on Sarkissian, mainly because of her previous record.
?It is difficult to find an available teacher to be our long term sub,? ?Papa? Schultz said. ?Many teachers we interviewed were willing for the position, but their schedules did not allow for the time required for the class.?
Students are glad just to have a teacher for the class.
?Mrs. Sarkissian is really organized,? April Fujihara, ’06, said. ?She challenged us and put a lot of effort into teaching the class.?
Schultz is interviewing more people for the position, however, he hopes Harms can return after the operation. Those who wish to contact Schultz during vacation can do so at [email protected].

Yep. This is exactly how I felt when they called out ‘The Feather’ – as if somebody had jumped out of a cake and thrown a huge plaque to the entire staff.
This trip was the most crazy, wonderful, shocking, fun vacation I’ve been on this school year. Who knows what’s going to go on next year?

Congratulations to you, Greg Stobbe, and all the staff at The Feather. David tames Goliath!
Be happy, be proud, and savor the moment.
