Hidden from the world by a couple of trees, Plaza Ventana is a jewel of Fresno. Located on W. Shaw Ave. and necessitating the distinction “across from Sizzler,” it is quite possibly one of the best-kept secrets of our fair city.
Although small compared with the more mainstream Chevy?s, this champion of Latino cuisine boasts late-night karaoke, a friendly staff and great food.
Upon entering a couple of weeks ago, I was greeted by the amiable sounds of mariachi music and the smell of freshly made fajitas, still sizzling in their skillets, being served to hungry customers.
On every day except Sunday (which is their busiest), prompt seating is to be expected at any one of the many festive tables littered about the room.
I was seated and given a small menu. The decision was hard, given the choices.
I thought of ordering one of those $12 fajitas plate I saw as I entered; I could still smell the amalgamated peppers and beef smothered in a mesquite-like sauce. Or maybe I should get the one-and-a-half foot Carne Asada burrito, or maybe just a combo plate with enchiladas, Mexican rice, and refried beans for $8.
I ordered the burrito. While I waited, I snacked on one of the refillable bowls of chips at my families? table. After a couple of handfuls of chips, dipped in their delicious salsas, I glanced anxiously at the four chefs working just a few yards away from me.
