The Academic Decathlon Super Quiz competition at Fresno State on Feb. 4 was a unique experience. Walking into the gym one would think it was the basketball championship.
There were students with their face painted and others with their stomachs. Some had large school flags that they waved rigorously with school spirit. There were students from every school ready to cheer on their classmates.
I attended just interested in extra credit but found my self actually enjoying the event. It was interesting to see the individual expression various schools showed through their uniforms, some with white robes and others with theme related Renaissance hats.
Later on, after the Super Quiz, we went back for the awards ceremony, a long congratulation for all the hard work students contributed to their school. FC decathlete, Will Hierholzer, impressed me with all the medals he received; it was exciting to actually know a winner amongst the dozens of students.
It was an enjoyable evening, something quite out of the norm.
