The varsity cheer squad finished 4th at the Clovis West Showcase on March 4. The competition was an exibition, but each high school team was judged, scored and ranked. While there were no divisions, the competition was an open meet for schools from all divisions.
Fresno Christian was up against the National Teams from Clovis West, Bullard High, Clovis High, Clovis East, and Buchanan High, all Division I schools. And, according to coach Katie Mendenhall, the girls performed a flawless routine and had the crowd cheering for them before the routine was over!
“We had an amazing finish!” Mendenhall said. “The girls beat Clovis East and Buchanan and only three tenths separated us from beating Clovis High for third place.”
The campus team finished with 88.33 points out of 100 and finished just behind Clovis High who had 88.67 points.
While the girls placed fourth out of the six schools, Mendenhall was upbeat after finding out the results on March 23.
“The results for our girls was awesome,” she added. “FC competed against the best teams in our area! I know we will be back next year stronger than ever after our great season. I am so proud of this team. They earned it the recognition after a strong work ethic and commitment. Win or lose these girls will always have a special place in my heart!”
Clovis West won the Cheer Showcase with 93 points and Bullard was second with 91 points. Both the junior varsity and varsity squads will tryout for spots on next year’s squad from April 3-6. For more information, contact Mendenhall through her e-mail at [email protected].
