Seven things to do before the school year comes to a close

With the year coming to a close, school sports and curricular activities are wrapping up. However, if you wish to get more involved, there are plenty of activities to participate in. Here are seven things you don’t want to miss as the school year comes to a close.

One

FC baseball games offer students an opportunity to watch competitive baseball games at the high school level. They are currently tied with Frontier HS and Redwood HS for the longest winning streak of six out of all divisions and beat league rival Fowler HS, 2-0. Their next home game is April 17, and the FC website has the full schedule.

Baseball center fielder, Griffin Schmidt, ’19, seeks to prove his skills and make a deep run in playoffs this year.

“I am very excited for the rest of the season to see what our team can do,” Schmidt said. “We have done very well so far, and I think we’ll do well in playoffs.”

Two

Competition soars high in boys tennis. They had won 16 league games in a row, but lost to Caruthers. Now the rematch is on and the players are eager to get their revenge. The match will be at Caruthers at 4 p.m., April 17. Come out and cheer the Eagles on.

Three

After a year of AP classes, the infamous AP testing weeks are right around the corner. FC offered four AP classes this school year.

AP Literature and Composition May 9
AP US History May 11
AP Biology May 14
AP Calculus May 15

Senior Joey Huang is taking three AP tests, the AP calculus, AP Literature and Composition and AP US History tests. She spends time each weekend studying and preparing for the upcoming tests.

“AP classes themselves are challenging and advanced which provides a great opportunity to learn,” Huang said. “AP tests are accepted by colleges for credits too, which is nice.”

Four

Seniors in economics class will soon put their business expertise into practice during the annual Econ Fair, during lunch. Junior high students will also be allowed to visit the fair. Students will sell products like nachos, tri-tip sandwiches, chili and tie-dye shirts. Seniors sell their goods to their peers and teachers in the FC gym, April 18. Bring money, your hunger and fashion sense as the economics students will try to sell you their wares.

Five

Before the seniors graduate, get to know Keith Zhu. Keith is an international student who enjoys traveling the globe in his free time. Ask him about his trip to Australia over spring break, where he surfed with the locals and trekked the mountain ranges. See what countries he recommends and which airlines are his favorites. You can learn all about his journeys and more on his website.

Six

[/media-credit] Office secretary Brenda Warkentin plans to retire this year after serving the campus for 34 years.

Brenda Warkentin is retiring at the end of this school year, get to know her before she departs from the campus. She has been employed at Fresno Christian for 34 years and worked at all three campuses during her time. Warkentin began her career as the elementary secretary for 26 years. Ask her about the time she witnessed three students being paddled by the principal. Watching elementary and high school students grow both academically and spiritually has been her favorite part of her career.

Seven

With the inevitable end of the school year, graduation is near. Seniors officially complete high school and prepare to take on the challenges of the outside world. Ask them about their goals, their fears, or maybe even their regrets. The graduation ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. in the Peoples Church auditorium, May 24.
