With homecoming gone, Night of the Stars past, and Sadies recently taken place, there is little activity left in the year to tie the campus together except for Spirit Week.
This week that is dedicated to dressing up and non-educational based activities will be May 1-5. The week begins with a bunko game involving the entire student body. Bunko seems appropriate considering all students are able to play and only need to know how to throw dice.
?When I was younger I was never really big on spirit weeks,? Marielle Desrosiers, ?08, said. ?But now that I have reached high school it seems to be more than just dressing up, you get to meet new people and get to know more about the people you usually hang out with.?
The campus will hold a mini-carnival on Tuesday. There will be food booths, a bounce house, games and the radio station Kluv 88.9 will provide entertainment. Students are encouraged to dress up in class colors: seniors are black, juniors are blue, sophomores are red and the freshmen are green.
?Tuesday is my favorite day there will be food, games and a radio station is coming; everything except the food is free,? Kim Bimat, ?06, said. ?Students should be more involved because this is our last thing we have all together, especially with the seniors graduating.?
With the dress code altered and a warm day expected it seems natural the midweek should involve water games. Students are permitted to wear sandals, board shorts and hats. No bathing suits are allowed but students are advised to bring towels. There will be a water balloon launch competition and other exciting contests.
?Participating gives students a chance to unite as one school,? Scott Orcutt, ?09, said. ?I am looking forward to water field day; it is going to be sweet.?
On Thursday underclassmen are to buddy up with a senior and dress as that senior would.
?I am excited about dressing up as a senior,? Ellie Willhelm, ?08, said. ?I already have three seniors to dress up as.?
Student body elections will be on Friday. There also will be a patriotic themed dress up day and a Mexican lunch put together by the California Scholarship Federation [CSF] for Cinco de Mayo.
Although students may not seem comfortable being involved with activities or dressing up, Spirit Week seems to allow students to be involved as much as they desire.
?I do not know if I will dress up each day, but I can not wait for beach dress up day,? Sarah Bonner, ?07, said. ?We get to wear board shorts and have water games, even though I am not participating in the games I will enjoy watching them.?
