Longtime secretary leaves post

For five years, Cheryl Pohl worked as a dedicated high school secretary in the high school office. She has become a recognizable face for campus life.

Now, Pohl has finalized the decision to leave the school.

?I am leaving to care for my parents who are needing help,? Pohl said. ?I will also be taking care of my ?Little Buddy?, Noah.?

Since her first grandson?s birth earlier this school year, Pohl has been working half days in order to help her daughter, Stephanie Patterson, ?00, with baby Noah.

Pohl?s first job on campus took place in the central office for over a year, until the school needed a high school secretary. Twenty years beforehand, Pohl worked solely with younger children.

?I never thought I would enjoy working with high school-age kids, because I worked with preschoolers,? Pohl said, ?but with my own two children in high school and being involved with their activities and friends, it has been a blast!?

Pohl admits that she loved her job, grateful to wake up every morning and look forward to work.

?I have been working with the best office staff,? Pohl said. ?They are so encouraging, positive, and patient. It is not easy to work five years only four feet away from your co-workers!?

In many aspects, Pohl?s ?encouraging, positive, and patient? co-workers have played a part in the growth of her own children.

?The staff will always have a special place in my heart because of their influence in my childrens? [Stephanie and David, ?03] lives,? Pohl said. ?My kids are who they are today because of caring teachers.?

Like any regular job, being a secretary in the high school is unpredictable. With new students coming in and out of school every year, Pohl never knew what the day would bring.

?The best part of this job is that no two days are the same,? Pohl said. ?Anything and everything can happen.?

Though she has made the decision to leave the school, Pohl will never forget the years she has spent on campus.

?I have even enjoyed the families from this school. They, too, have been supportive,? Pohl said. ?I sincerely hope someday to be back at FC.?
