What do all humans have in common? They like food. Not only do they like food, but they buy, store and praise food.
This is the theory that RJ the Raccoon [Bruce Willis] passes off as an explanation of the human life to the forest dwellers. What remains a secret is why RJ has such an urge to help his new friends.
Having been caught rummaging through Vincent the Bear [Nick Nolte]?s huge stockpile of food, RJ finds himself pressed for time as he tries to restock the stolen goods in a week.
While the forest dwellers run short on food supplies, RJ stumbles upon his one chance to regain the bear?s lost stockpile.
In a one-night boost, the curious clan sabotages the suburbia home of Gladys? [Allison Janney] while trying to outwit Dwayne, ?The Verminator,? and his destructive traps.
The storyline also maintains a hint of moral truth as RJ finds the true meaning of family and must decide whether the retribution of a bear?s wrath is worth throwing away all that he?s come to know.
One of the funniest moments of the film occurs when Verne, the overcautious turtle, tries to take the food back against RJ?s wishes. The scene involves a playful dog, flying animals, and a Lincoln Navigator that gets blown up in the process.
The movie also stars the voices of Eugene Levy and Catherine O?Hara as Lew and Penny the porcupines, as well as William Shatner as Ozzie the possum and Avril Lavigne as Ozzie?s daughter.
This movie best suits families and young children, though teenagers and adults will enjoy the common similarities shared with the animal?s thoughts and reality.
Over the Hedge is currently playing at Edward?s 21 Cinema in Riverpark.
