The set was magnificent, the blocking superb, props and effects spectacular. None of this could be done without some reinforcements and alumni students have returned to add support to the inexperienced set designers.
Drama director, Tom McEntee, asked three alumni students to help out with the drama production, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. The alumni include: Shauna Miller, ?06, Akiko Work, ?06, and Michael Savage, ?04.
?One of the aspects of this production that I am especially excited about is the help that we are getting from some of our graduates,? McEntee said. ?Shaunna brings her great ideas for blocking and choreography. Akiko is our resident set designer and Michael is using graphic design skills to build the props that we will need.?
The alumni look forward to the chance to get to help with the drama class? latest production in progress.
?I helped cast the play and I?m going to be an assistant to the director, helping Mr. Mac with blocking ideas for the actors,? Miller said. ?I love this year?s senior class and I want to see them succeed again. Plus, Mr. Mac needs me so I don?t want to let him down.?
The drama production is a great way to for alumni to help students enjoy the experience of drama.
?Just the fact that after I graduated, I realized that opportunities like this would be few and far between,? Work said. ?It?s going to keep me out of the full time work trap. It might be an extra drive and more work but it?s better than the routine.?
Students feel that help from the alumni can be a beneficial experience.
?I think it?s really great that the students who have graduated want to still be involved in our school,? Kayla Dones, ?09, said. ?We really appreciate it and we learn from what they do because they have more experience.?
Savage sees this opportunity as a great learning experience and a chance to help out the drama team while having fun doing what he loves.
?Well, I just love set design. It helps me with my major in graphic design with computers,? Savage said. ?I?m looking for a job in the imagery department with Disney. This is the perfect opportunity; it helps me learn my craft better.?
McEntee is grateful for the work that the alumni are putting into the production.
?Michael is building the head of the horseman, which will fly out over the audience,? McEntee said. ?I am very thankful for their willingness to come back and work for us.?
Savage currently attends Fresno State University and majors in graphic design but theater work is a possibility for his future.
?Theater work is a possibility for me as it pertains to imagery, art is in the same vein,? Savage said.
Drama is currently working on The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and will present the play, Dec. 8-9 in Ground Zero.
