An ideal excursion to Europe often includes a trip to Paris, London or Rome. Each possesses its own historical essence. However, this June, English teacher Greg Stobbe will lead a tour to Prague and Vienna.
Many people who travel to Europe overlook some of the stunning highlights of its background. Prague and Vienna offer a landscape that is near untouched by the trials of World War II. This provides an experience that is true to the European culture.
“Anyone who goes on the trip is going to be blown away,” Stobbe said. “We’re going to old Europe, namely Prague and Vienna. Prague in particular is unbelievable. They call it the City of 100 Spires. It is an absolutely stunning place.”
Prague is a picture of the vast history of Europe and a symbol of a culture that has existed for centuries. The dazzling scenery of Prague is presented in endless spectacles of architecture.
A must see for anyone traveling to Prague and a site on Stobbe’s tour is the Charles Bridge. The bridge is a brilliant example of Gothic stone architecture. It connects the Old Town and Mala Strana. Charles Bridge features over 30 Baroque statues, including the commonly visited likeness of St. John of Nepomuk that is said to grant any visitor who touches the statue with their left hand good luck.
“Last year, my family went on Stobbe’s tour to Italy,” Kailee Maxey, ’09, said. “It was neat because everywhere we went, there was something to learn about the history and the culture there. The entire trip was a really educational experience.”
