Nine seniors, two games, one class of 2019, honored May 2

Family, friends, coaches and the baseball and softball teams recognized their seniors at the varsity baseball and softball senior night, May 2. Both teams won their home games: baseball, 28-2, and softball, 11-1, against Laton High School.

During baseball, the Eagles dominated their game from start to finish. Freshman Soren Sobrado led the team in batting with five base appearances, four at-bats, four runs, three hits, and two runs batted in. The pitching squad included seniors Sam Cross, Ronnie Peterson, and Anthony Lonardo.

Student leadership honored baseball seniors Griffin Schmidt, Aaron Lacroix, Anthony Lonardo, Sam Cross, Brandon Brogan, Ronnie Peterson and Jacob Scully.

FC baseball coach Noah Heinz is proud of the baseball program the seniors have built over the years. He enjoys seeing them grow in their skills.

“We sat down four years ago with this group of young men and their parents and we laid out the the goals that we have in this group,” Heinz said. “We knew that we had a very deep and special group of athletes here from Aaron Lacroix, Sam Cross, Brandon Brogan, Griffin Schmidt, and Ronnie Peterson.”

Four-year varsity baseball player Peterson not only grew to love baseball, but also to bond and make memories with his teammates.

“One of my favorite factors of this season was getting to meet new people,” Peterson said. “One of my favorite memories was when Brynnor Poplin got his first hit of the season; it was the best thing I ever saw.”

In the following podcast, Carston Saelzler discusses senior night with Noah Heinz.

Similar to the baseball game, softball dominated Laton with a ten-run victory. A defensive stronghold, FCS only allowed Laton to achieve one run.

During the game, student leadership honored softball seniors Alina Davila and Macie Thompson.

Davila has played softball for three years at FCS. She enjoys catching and hitting. One of the reasons she joined softball was because of prayer with other teams after the game.

“Some of my favorite moments from this season were catching for my sister (Makayla Davila, ’22) and Ellie Scully,” Davila said, “hitting a home run, and praying after each game for both teams. A lesson I learned from my years in softball is that it doesn’t matter the end outcome of anything, as long as you give your 100 percent you should be proud.”

Both baseball and softball ended their seasons with a second-round playoff loss to Foothill, May 10. Baseball 8-4 and softball 5-1. Congrats on a fantastic season, Eagles!
