Dear editor:
I think that it is a fantastic way to get kids fit with walking buddies. Jennifer Sherfieldís Sept. 25 article, ìWalking Buddies run to loseî is a great article and I am glad it is available to younger people.
It is a positive thing that many high schoolers would give up their lunchtime to help kids stay fit. It is also a great thing that it is outside of the Fresno Christian campus. The more people that stay fit, the less of an obesity problem we will have to deal with.
This is a great idea not to just walk but to expand the activity of those involved. The more activity the more fun they have and more than likely the more they would want to play. Also, the more physical activity they get, the healthier they are in the long run.
Although many kids are doing it to help kids be fit, and other are doing it for community service, it is a great program for either reason.
In the future I would love to see this program expand around the valley and maybe throughout California. I think I would like to participate next year knowing how walking buddies benefits the kids and myself.
