Spotlight Productions: Showcase of Hope

Spotlight Productions students use talents and gifts to spread hope through the community with their video, Showcase of Hope.

This past month, teachers have adapted to online education with their students. Most teachers are assigning work or recording lectures, but one teacher had an idea to benefit the greater good.

Drama teacher and director of Spotlight Productions, Megan Conner, encouraged students to record themselves sharing quotes, singing, reading poems, dancing, and playing instruments.

“The film was created to share the message of hope with others in need during this time,” Conner said. “It is the mission of Spotlight Productions to serve others with the gifts God gave us, so we took a look at how we might best serve Him and others during this time by creating our Showcase of Hope video.

“We named it Showcase of Hope because this project also replaced our Spring Showcase which was to be our final production of this performance year,” Conner continues. “I’m so grateful for the kid’s willingness to take on the heart of this project in the midst of possible disappointment over their own loss; they truly embody the heart of Spotlight Productions. I’m so proud of them all.”

So far, the video has been shared with 27 local non-profits, community leaders, and churches who serve the underserved. Some of those leaders have shared the film beyond their organizations to reach other groups including the Fresno Area Emergency COVID Team and have traveled as far as Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.

In the video below, drama class students express a common theme of hope through songs, quotes, or poems:
