What we do matters is this year’s theme for Scholastic Journalism Week, Feb 21-27. #SJW2021 shines a spotlight on the importance of journalism and why it matters. This week is dedicated to high school journalism teams across the nation with an opportunity to share their voice.  SJW is hosted by JEA, Journalism Education Association . 

With the aim of student engagement and news with integrity, The Feather Online works to continue telling the stories Fresno Christian students and the community abroad. In years past, SJW week has included dancing morph suits, lunchtime giveaways, chapel takeovers, hallway press conferences and plenty of student interaction. 

With the smallest staff in years, we continue the goal, even when life on campus looks drastically different this pandemic year. The SJW theme reassures students that their work matters and has a purpose. Stay tuned this week on our social media accounts and here for more from Feather journalist as we bring you Scholastic Journalism week.

SJW also has daily themes and lessons that undergo the theme “What We Do Matters”.

Friday: What They Did Matters

Student Press Freedom Day is Feb. 26 and the theme is Journalism Against the Odds.

We encourage you to engage with The Feather on instagram and The Feather Online. Use the #SJW2021 or #WhatWeDoMatters to engage with us through this week and show support of your local school newspaper.

Some ways to engage with The Feather:

• Don’t be afraid to like instagram posts
• Comment on posts with encouragement or appreciation
• DM The Feather on instagram (please be appropriate)
• Share and repost stories, posts and articles
• Talk to your friends and family about some issues that The Feather has covered in articles
