Jamaican Bobsleigh Team

Kicking off 2022, Beijing, China hosts the Winter Olympics starting on Feb. 4 through Feb. 20. After four long years, countries from all over the world sit in anticipation waiting to view this fifteen sport competition. These sports range from bobsleigh, curling, snowboarding, etc.

[/media-credit] The bobsled event is one of the several sports, countries compete in during the 2022 winter olympics.

Some US athletes to keep an eye on consist of

  • Shaun White (snowboarding)
  • Emily Sweeney (luge)
  • John Shuster (curling)
  • Jessie Diggins (cross-country skiing)
  • Alex Ferreira (freestyle skating)
  • Elana Meyers Taylor (bobsled)
  • Nathan Chen (figure skating)

For the first time in 24 years, a bobsled team from Jamaica makes it to the Olympics! This sport consists of four men inside a bobsled, sliding down ice. How do you practice a winter sport with no snow? According to nbcnews.com, “They famously trained with a slapped-together sled on a concrete track in preparation…” By surprise, these men had never even seen a bobsled until just recently.

The previous Olympic team finished 30th with a crashing halt at 85 mph. Although crashing meant disqualification, they walked to the finish line to end off strong.

Four-man bobsleigh team heats one and two compete February 18, at 8:30 p.m. ET.
