With 10 locations and approximately 215 students, the 8th annual Serve Day is sure to leave a positive impact on our community. On Feb. 24, students will leave school after 2nd period to serve all day at their chosen location.
Last year, a school-wide Serve Day was impossible due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, the leadership class spent an afternoon cleaning the Art of Life garden at Woodward Park.
Teacher Robert Foshee is excited to once again lead students in a day of community service. He first organized the event in 2015.
“Where we have gone to serve they have been excited to see our kids because they work hard and have impressive attitudes,” Foshee said. “Every year it’s the one event every kid says is their favorite.”
Students will participate in activities such as yard work, graffiti clean-up, organizing donated goods and assisting churches.
Central California Food Bank – Students sort food for the largest food bank in Central California. This nonprofit distributed 54 million pounds of food to the Central Valley in 2021.
Reading Heart in FC Gym – Students organize palettes of books provided by Reading Heart. Books are sorted into bins, separated by age groups, for distribution to children in hospitals and areas with limited access to books.
Crosscity Christian Church, The Well Community Church and Peoples Church – Students assist church leaders with various landscaping projects and other odd jobs.
Fresno Discovery Center – Students help the museum by cleaning the yard. The Fresno Discovery Center was founded to spark curiosity and imagination by providing hands-on learning experiences.
Art of Life garden at Woodward Park – Students sweep pathways, clean plaques and do yard work. The Art of Life Cancer Foundation seeks to give hope to those affected by cancer through creativity.
Radio Park – Students clean up this park by landscaping and washing playground equipment.
Graffiti clean-up (two locations) – Students paint over graffitied walls with light grey paint.
