FC boys volleyball season begins
The Eagle varsity boys volleyball has started its season at Fresno Christian. The boys next home league game will be against WCPA at 5 PM, March 23.
Starting in 2020, the boys volleyball team has only grown since. Last season the team ended with a loss against Nipomo for the league playoffs which finished with a score of 3-2. The boys concluded the season with a 17-17 record.
The boys varsity volleyball team is coached by Steve Gugielmana who also coaches girls volleyball. He expresses how different boys volleyball is from girls.
“The sport is the same but it’s very different, the boy’s volleyball is more intense,” Gugeliemana said. “And there are not as many guys as the girls which makes them work faster and stronger which makes for an exciting game.”
Gugielmana is looking forward to a thrilling season and getting to know his team on a deeper level. When talking about the goals for the season and the team he hopes for another championship win.
The team consists of 12 players made up of eight seniors, two juniors, one sophomore and one freshman, with two assistant managers Brandy Penberthy, ‘23, and Sara Gugielmna, ‘26.
Returning player and senior captain Cooper Saelzer explains what volleyball means and his excitement for this upcoming season.
“It’s a fun sport, volleyball has definitely impacted my life by growing me and I think others can find the same joy.” Saelzer said. “I’m excited about hanging with the boys and having fun with the sport and all the opportunities.”
Saelzer explains what being captain means to him this season
