    SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF JANUARY 21-26, 2008

    FRIDAY
    Rally schedule- FC gym
    Adventure P.E. – Spelunking – all day
    Honor Band – all day
    Acadec @ Molly Sargent’s – all day
    Boys’ soccer vs. Dos Palos (H), 3:30 P.M.
    Boys’/girls’ (JV/V) BB vs. Riverdale (H), 4:30/6/7:30 P.M.

    SATURDAY
    Acadec interview/speech/essay competition @ CSUF, 9 A.M.
    Clovis Pep Cheer competition @ Clovis H.S. – Varsity 1:30; JV 1:40 P.M.
    Honor Band – practice concert, 7 P.M.

    SPANISH CLUB–
    The club plans to host another meeting during lunch on Jan. 25. Members must wear there club t-shirts.

    FCA LUNCH–
    Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsors their bi-monthly power lunch tomorrow in room 604 to honor the girls? basketball players. All current athletes, especially the basketball players, are expected to attend.

    5th QUARTER FRIDAY–
    Student leadership sponsors 5th quarter at John’s Incredible Pizza for after the boys? varsity basketball game on Jan. 25. Details to follow.

    JAMBA JUICE–
    All students who filled out an order form for a 16 oz. Jamba Juice must remember to bring $4 for lunch on Jan. 28.

    WSL TALENT SHOW AUDITIONS–
    Student leadership hosts the 2008 annual West Sierra League talent show auditions during lunch in Ground Zero on Jan. 29, 31, and Feb. 1. The class encourages all students to try out or watch. All acts must be appropriate and follow school rules. Those auditioning need to provide their own equipment. Any song with lyrics needs to have a written copy for review.

    INTRAMURALS–
    Double badminton intramurals will commence on Feb. 5. The matches take place during lunch in the PC gym. Sign up in room 608.

    ETHNIC LUNCH–
    The second CSF-sponsored lunch will be Jan. 31. The lunch features cuisine from Johnny’s Armenian Restaurant. Students will receive loosh kebob, rice pilaf, hummus with pocket bread, lemonade and a cookie for $6. It is a fundraiser for senior scholarships. For more information, see Molly Sargent, Ben Dang or Shane Darakjian.

    BOOK OR WALKING BUDDIES–
    Those interested in helping the students at Pinedale Elementary School may sign up for Book or Walking Buddies in front of the office. This program offers assistance to students who need help with reading or fitness health. Students who choose to participate must commit their time and effort every Tuesday afternoon during chapel and lunch.

    NEW ONLINE EDITION–
    After a nine month rewrite, The Feather Online is pleased to announce an updated version of the high school newspaper, Jan. 23. While small glitches may still appear throughout the first week, Andrew Rurik, Webmaster, believes the switch over will be seamless.

    JANUARY EDITORIAL APPEARS IN NATIONAL EDITION–
    While no staff articles appeared in the January 21 version of the National Edition, The Feather’s January editorial was selected.

    Editors Jennifer Sherfield and Mary Kneefel continue to lead staff and the editorial, Political opinion initiates independence is highlighted in the Opinions section. This is the second time this semester a Feather article was chosen.

    With the 2007 fall semester completed, 20 different Feather reporters and 38 articles appeared on the National Edition in 14 consecutive issues.

    Currently 646 high schools across the United States, regardless of size, participate in online newspaper production and are eligible for this honor. While The Feather Online posts new articles each day on its home site (www.thefeather.com), reporters continue to be chosen to represent the National Edition online high school newspaper.

    The National Edition began publication in September 2003 and is sponsored by the American Society of Newspaper Editors (www.asne.org).

    CONGRATULATIONS VARSITY CHEER–
    Congratulations to varsity cheer for placing first this weekend at the Orange Lutheran USA Regionals and qualifying for USA Nationals. The girls performed a nearly flawless routine and the judges noticed. The squad gives the glory to the Lord for their performance.

    Varsity and JV Cheer perform at Clovis High this weekend at the Clovis Pep Classic, Saturday, Jan. 26. Varsity performs at 1:30 P.M. and JV performs at 1:40 P.M.

    MID-VALLEY JAZZ BAND COMPETITION–
    The jazz band received “Excellent” ratings from a panel of three jazz musicians in Tulare on Jan. 23. Michael Prentice earned an Outstanding Musician Award for his guitar solo. Congratulations to the jazz band on their performances.

    DESSERT THEATRE–
    The High School drama class hosts Dessert Theatre night in Ground Zero on Monday, Feb. 4. The evening includes a variety of scenes the class has prepared during the course of the year. Tickets are not on sale and only available on a VIP basis. Each drama student will be inviting seven people to sit at their own table.     CONGRATULATIONS JENNIFER LEE–
    After a year of work in the office, Jennifer Lee, former secretary, retired when she gave birth to her first child. Her newborn daughter, Sienna Joy, entered the world at 9 lbs. 21 inches on Jan. 11. Mom and baby are home and healthy.

    HARDCOPY EDITION–
    The corrected hardcopy edition of The Feather is now available. If interested, pick up a copy or two in front of the office.

    FENTON’S MATH LAB–
    Michael Fenton, math teacher, now offers assistance to students in room 606 Tuesday through Friday during lunch and after school.

    ATTENTION STUDENTS–
    A list of all students who have not bought a yearbook are posted on the office window. Those whose names are crossed out have purchased yearbooks and those whose names still remain have not purchased one. If anyone is still interested in purchasing the yearbook, make a check payable to FCS for $80 and turn it into Molly Sargent in room 621 or the office.

    PSAT SCORES–
    PSAT scores are now available to all students who took the exam in October. Parents must come by the office to receive the scores or may send a note granting the student permission to pick them up. For questions concerning the PSAT, contact Jon Endicott, associate principal.

    REGISTRATION FOR ALL MALES AGE 18–
    All men must register with Selective Service when they turn 18. Those who fail to register may be denied many important opportunities such as student loans, government jobs, a driver’s license in most states, and citizenship for male immigrants. Go online to register: Selective Service System.

    GOLF OR BOYS’ TENNIS–
    Students interested in participating in golf or boys’ tennis sign up sheets are in front of the office.

    ADVENTURE P.E. OFFERED–
    Once a month the physical education department will organize excursions not normally associated with PE classes on campus. The small class returned from a one day biking trip to Yosemite earlier in October. For more information e-mail Callisch at [email protected] as soon as possible for the spelunking activity.

    May – Rafting

    TUTORS NEEDED–
    High school students interested in tutoring see George Freeman in the junior high office as soon as possible. This is a paid position.
