ACSI ART FESTIVAL–
Junior John Carreon received the top award at the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in Morgan Hill, April 24. His scratch-board of a cowboy won the high school division and Best of Show for the entire festival. Senior Steven Willems also earned recognition for his scratch-board and was awarded a superior.

SENIOR GRADUATION PERFORMERS–
Any senior wanting to perform at graduation must sign up for an audition time with Aaron Bryan in the Music Suite, April 25. Auditions will begin next Monday, April 28 and will conclude Wednesday, April 30. Songs must be chosen by the student and be appropriate for graduation. Students must be prepared to perform their selected piece at the time of their audition. Contact Bryan for more information.

CHOIR AUDITIONS–
Any student who would like to be in Ensemble and/or Concert Choir for the 2008-09 year needs to sign up for an audition time with Aaron Bryan in the Music Suite by April 25. Auditions will begin next Monday, April 28 and will conclude Wednesday, April 30. Contact Bryan for more information.

SUMMER SCHOOL–
If anyone is considering taking independent summer study packets, the order form and money should be submitted before April 25. The summer school packets may be ordered after this Friday, but the materials may arrive after school ends.

SPANISH CLUB MEMBERS–
Dues and empanada lunch money must be turned in to Coleton Hutchins or Senora Foth, April 25. The money will pay for the Mariachi band on Cinco de mayo.

BATTLE OF THE BANDS–
The annual Battle of the Bands concert will occur at 7 P.M. in Ground Zero, May 2. The tickets cost $5 and may be purchased from student leadership. Any bands wanting to perform need to talk to sophomore, Jennifer Boudreau.

BOYS’ TENNIS RESULTS–
Fresno Christian beat Dos Palos, 5-4, in their match, April 22.

TRACK RESULTS–
The SouthWest Sierra League Championships were held at Folwer, April 23.

The boys’ track and field team scored 63 points. The following athletes qualified for the next meet at the Reedly Kiwanis Invitational, April 25: Jesse Todd, Doug Daniel, Andrew Evans, Abel Carreon, Josiah Ford, Joe Hergenroeder, and senior Kedric Anderson. Anderson improved in the pole vault by beating his school record for the third time by jumping 11’9″.

The girls’ track and field team scored 77 points placing themselves 3rd in league. The following athletes qualified for the meet in Reedly: Janae Ford, Sam Gutierres, Lindsay Franz, Michele Graham, Jen Boudreau, and seniors Ellie Wilhelm and Whitney Chessum. Chessum was the only girl champion after her performance in the 1600, 800, and 3200 m races.

Congratulations to all track athletes and best wishes to those who continue to compete in the upcoming meet.

SENIOR NITE PARENT MEETING–
The next Grad Nite meeting for the class of 2008 will be held in room 608 from 7-8:30 P.M., April 29. The committee invites all senior parents to attend and plan the event for the graduates.

LAUNCH A NEW DECADE–
Catch the vision and don’t miss the opportunity to participate in Fresno Christian Schools’ launch of its new administration and future plans.

The purpose of the gathering is for Superintendent Debbie Siebert to share Fresno Christian Schools’ vision for the next decade, introduce the leadership team and reveal future plans.

Members of the Foundation and School Boards will also be available for one-on-one dialogue after the presentation.

SADIE HAWKINS–
The thene for this years Sadie Hawkins is Dynamic Duos and ticket sales begin April 21. Girls need to ask the guys if they plan on attending the event on May 3. The prices and details for the evening will be divulged soon.

NOTS MOVIE SALE–
NOTS movie orders will be taken at lunch for the DVD copies. The cost is $10 for one DVD or $25 for all four. Bring the money to place an order at the student leadership table during lunch.

APRIL ADVENTURE P>E>–
The next Adventure P.E. will introduce Geo-Cachin, a high-tech treasure hunt, April 25. The event is free. Sign up in front of the office. For more info, see Scott Callisch.

CONGRATULATIONS FEATHER–
The Feather Online was named the best online newspaper in the United States along with four other high school newspapers for the second time in three years. Over 4,500 student from across the country attended the convention in Anaheim. The Pacemaker award is considered the equivalent of a Pulitzer Prize.

All high schools in the U.S., regardless of size or division, are eligible for this competition.

CONGRATULATIONS DESTINATION IMAGINATION–
Destination Imagination representatives Janae Keys-Bramlett, Tonia Keys-Bramlett, Anthony Johnson, Cody King, David Sholes, and Scott Thao, competed for the State event in Sacramento, April 5. The team placed first and received the Renaissance Award for their use of materials during the improv challenge. The group will now represent California at the World Competition in Tennessee in May. Congratulations to all team members for their success.

Intramurals–
The 3 on 3 basketball intramurals will begin during lunch on Wednesday, April 9. All interested students must sign up with their team in Josh Tosland’s room, April 2. The rules for forming a team states only one basketball player is allowed per team, no teacher is allowed to be a part of any team. All participants need to meet on the black top or in the PC gym on game days.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL–
All girls interested in playing basketball are invited to attend open gym every Wednesday from 6-8 P.M.

NATIONAL EDITION HONORS CONTINUE–
While The Feather staff and FCHS students were on spring break, four reporters were still represented on the National Edition, March 16-22. Madison Dooley’s feature on varsity cheer, Partnership determines squad success is her third this year. Sydney Ray placed her second article, Dairy demands divergent responsibilities.

Ryan Swain placed a movie review, his second article, 10,000 B.C. ignores history. And finally, Sean O’Neal placed his first article, a CD review, Radiohead gamble pays off.

Currently, 29 out of 32 Feather reporters and 55 articles have appeared on the National Edition since August 2007.

Over 665 high schools across the United States, regardless of size, participate in online newspaper production and are eligible for this honor. While The Feather Online posts new articles each day on its home site (www.thefeather.com), reporters continue to be chosen to represent the National Edition online high school newspaper.

The National Edition began publication in September 2003 and is sponsored by the American Society of Newspaper Editors (www.asne.org).

ADVENTURE P.E. OFFERED–
Once a month the physical education department will organize excursions not normally associated with PE classes on campus. The small class returned from a one day biking trip to Yosemite earlier in October. For more information e-mail Callisch at [email protected] as soon as possible for the spelunking activity.

FEATHER AWARDED TOP 10 HONOR
For the third year in a row, the campus publication, The Feather Online, has been named one of the best high school newspapers in the country. On Feb. 25, editor-in-chief, senior Mary Kneefel, and her staff have been named a National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker Finalist.

Online editions from across the country were entered in the annual competition, which has recognized student journalism since 1927. Many refer to the coveted Pacemaker as the Pulitzer Prize of student journalism.

The 12-week competition began Jan. 28 and will conclude when the top three online newspapers in the United States are announced at the NSPA National Convention in Anaheim, CA, on April 19. For more information, the NSPA home page is www.studentpress.org/nspa/.

Only 10 high school newspapers in the United States have been named finalists this year, up from seven in 2006 when The Feather Online won the competition. Of this year’s finalists, three are from California and two from Maryland. All high school newspapers in the United States, regardless of school size, are eligible to compete for this award.

CAUTION STUDENTS
Students are not allowed to chew gum on campus unless they turn in a specific note from their doctor. This rule comes from Peoples Church and is in effect even after school. It costs the Peoples Church approximately $3,000 to clean up the mess created by gum.

FENTON’S MATH LAB–
Michael Fenton, math teacher, now offers assistance to students in room 606 Tuesday through Friday during lunch and after school.

REGISTRATION FOR ALL MALES AGE 18–
All men must register with Selective Service when they turn 18. Those who fail to register may be denied many important opportunities such as student loans, government jobs, a driver’s license in most states, and citizenship for male immigrants. Go online to register: Selective Service System.
