The “Sandy Eagles” hit the courts as the season progresses. The atmosphere is filled with teammates cheering each other on and excited parents watching in anticipation.
Fresno Christian beach volleyball takes part in their second season of the program. Starting last year with a handful of girls with a variety of levels, the team continues to expand. This year’s team consists of 12 girls ranging from freshmen to seniors.
Alumni and head coach, Jackie Guglielmana shares her experience of what it is like to return to her alma mater and put her own spin on coaching.
“I get to be that kind of younger coach who can relate with all that they’ve got on their plates and use my experience to help them understand the game,” Guglielmana said. “I get to share my love of the game with the players who aren’t as familiar with it as I am after years of playing, and I get to help show them how much fun it can be, while also pushing their skills to grow more than they thought they could.”
New member of the team, Brooklyn Samarin, ‘27, explains the team dynamics and how it compares to indoor volleyball.
“I love how it’s outside and gives you the opportunity to learn the different rules that come with playing beach volleyball,” Samarin said. “I have gotten to grow closer with teammates that I didn’t know as well before the season and make memories with them as well as see how the older girls play and learn from them.”
Come out and support your Eagles at their next match, April 20, at the Landon Sand Courts.
