As a new year begins, so does the need for student involvement. The Feather, the FCS high school newspaper, is in need of videographers, illustrators, podcastors and photographers. Please contact adviser Greg Stobbe if you have any interest in either joining one of three publications classes or participating independently.

Milne Photography will be on campus for picture day today from 8 a.m. until noon for 7th – 11th graders. Please do not make any appointments for this morning.

7th – 11th grade students received the picture day info and order forms on the first day of school. The order envelopes must be brought back today with payment to be given to Milne Photography. The offices do not handle any matters related to photography.

If anyone needs another Milne Photography order form, please go to the Vault under forms. The username is eagle; PW, student.

Also, for any seniors who have not taken their senior pictures at Milne Photography, an appointment must be made with Milne as soon as possible. These senior pictures will be published in the yearbook. Milne Photography can be reached at 431-0681.

Show your school spirit by ordering the nut pack and joining the famous nut house, or cheering section at games. Purchase your nut pack during lunch this week for only $15. By the first game the price of the nut pack will have increased.

Back to school night will be held on Monday, Aug. 31 from 7 – 9 p.m. The event begins in GZ main with all JH and HS parents and teachers. After the informational meeting led by Principal Todd Bennett, parents will be dismissed to visit their student’s classrooms. Students will bring home the actual schedule and times for this evening; parents, please bring the schedule with you.

Spiritwear and VIP cards will be sold at back to school night as well. Cheer will serve cookies and parents will have an opportunity to find out how they can pray for their students and become involved in parent networking to support the community. Please mark your calendar for this important night.

Publications, yearbook students and their parents have the opportunity to visit the Big Apple in March on a school-sponsored educational trip. Greg Stobbe plans to lead his 6th trip to New York City and attend Columbia University’s 86th annual journalism convention and workshop.

Stobbe sent home an interest form with all his publications students on Tuesday for parents to sign. Please return the form by Monday, August 31. Stobbe needs to know how many students and parents are interested in the trip. For more information, contact Stobbe at [email protected].

CSF applications for all qualifying sophomores, juniors and seniors are available on the table in front of the office. Submit a copy of your transcript with your completed application and $5 dues to Molly Sargent in the office. Sign up in the office to obtain a transcript by Sept. 4. Applications will not be accepted after Sept. 8.

Lunches for JH and HS students will be sold by clubs and athletic teams this year. Each week the lunch menu will be posted in the anouncements. Remember that only seniors are permitted to go off campus for lunch with their senior lunch pass. No other students are allowed to go off campus for lunch unless their own parents sign the students out in person. Phone calls or notes will not be accepted.

The annual fall kick-off and carnival will be held on the north field this Saturday, Aug. 29. It begins with a youth football game vs. Orange Cove at 3 p.m.

There will also be a dunk tank, water slide, bounce house, food booths, face painting, sports memorabilia auction, cake walk and choir and band performance. Team introductions for football, cheer, tennis, volleyball, cross country and club soccer will start at 6 p.m. All tickets for the events will be sold at the door. Tickets will be $.50 each and each booth will have their ticket requirements posted. Come support your school and enjoy fellowship with the community.

We also have the opportunity to bless an Orange Cove family, the Salazars, who lost five children in a recent auto accident. We would like to bless them with donations for the family, and throughout the day we will be accepting donations on their behalf. All funds donated will go directly to the Salazar family. Please help us be a blessing to them. We hope to see you at the carnival.

Students in grades 9 – 11 are assigned lockers. However, there is only a limited number of lockers left to be assigned to the seniors. If you do not have a car to keep your books and need a locker, you must request a locker assignment from Yoko Kilbourne in the high school office: first come, first served. Only bottom lockers are left.

Seniors who are late to 7th period will have their lunch pass taken away for one week after the first offense. The second tardiness will result in the pass being taken away for two weeks. On the third time the pass will be taken away for three weeks. The fourth tardiness will cause the lunch pass to be taken away for good.

Girls tennis practices Tuesday through Friday will be from 2:15-4:15 (unless your last period class is a core class; then report to the courts after school).

Brittany Salley will be the new head coach, assisted by Janae and Tonia Keys-Bramlett. Coach Salley played tennis at Fresno Pacific and taught tennis at Sierra Sports. Janae and Tonia played in high school for FC’s winning team. We look forward to a great year. For more information, contact Cynthia Ward at 299-1695 ext. 122.

All girls soccer players must sign up to work at the fall athletic kick-off on Saturday, Aug. 29. Sign up in Coach Jennifer Tatum’s office in the girls locker room.

The football team is taking applications for two to three team managers (they can be boys or girls). Managers will assist with games and practices, travel with the team and get team apparel. See Coach Cunnings or Coach Foshee for more information.

Thursday practice is from 4 – 6 p.m. and Friday from 7 – 9 a.m. All girls interested in playing volleyball are encouraged to attend.

The new volleyball coach is David Tatum who played college volleyball at Point Loma, plays club ball and also beach volleyball. He has great knowledge of the sport and is very passionate about volleyball. He looks forward to a great year.

For more information, email Tatum at [email protected].

Color guard is looking for new people to participate in the marching season. All students grades 7th – 12th are invited to try a new activity. For more information, head to the high school office and sign up.

Every Wednesday open gym will be held for girls basketball at 6 p.m. in the gym.

Moms In Touch, a prayer group comprised of JH and HS moms, meets from 8 – 9 a.m. on Friday mornings in room 204 to pray on the behalf of students. All JH and HS parents are invited to join Moms In Touch every Friday. If a couple dads show up, a Dads In Touch group will be formed.

Room 204 is near the PC library. If anyone is unable to locate the room, come by the HS office to find out more. For further questions, please contact Gina Wathen at 322-9116.

On Sept. 21 from 9:30 a.m. until noon the ASVAB Career Exploration Program will take place. The test will be administered here on campus and is free for all high school students between 10th and 12th grade. Test results help students learn their strengths and talents which assists them in later career choices.

Please sign up in front of the office and grab a copy of the ASVAB Overview Guide to help your student prepare. Sign-ups end on Sept. 4th. Please see Molly Sargent, academic advisor, for details.

PSN needs a secretary and treasurer, as well as members for the board. No freshmen, sophomore or junior mothers have volunteered. Please contact Pam Powell at [email protected] or 977-5779.
