The sound of worship fills the mountain air alongside the crackling fire as Fresno Christian seniors create unforgettable memories and grow closer as a class and as a family, Sept. 22.
Senior class of 2025 traveled to Hume Lake for this year’s annual Senior Retreat, Sept. 22-23. It was a quick trip but one that wouldn’t be forgotten.
Pushing students out of their comfort zone, senior advisors Kori James and Robert Foshee randomized the teams that the students would be spending their weekend competing in.
They challenged every person to participate in each activity such as dodgeball, hula-hoop competitions, themed skits, and relay races. One activity that was not required was waking up before the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise, which the majority of students didn’t want to miss.
Senior, Chloe Butler, has been attending FCS for two years; yet she has witnessed her class unite exponentially during the short weekend.
“I liked how everyone came together and bonded,” Butler said. “It was eye-opening listening to my classmates share advice and their struggles around the bonfire.”
For most seniors, the victory circle bonfire was a popular highlight of the trip. While many tears were shed, the class grew closer after stepping out of a guarded version of themselves, ultimately expressing vulnerability to their peers.
Civics teacher and senior advisor, Robert Foshee, witnesses the experience of the bonfire every year and says it never gets old.
“Every class is different depending on their needs and life stories,” Foshee said. “It’s important for the senior class to share what God is doing in their lives to help open up their spiritual eyes.”
Every student was moved in one way or another on this trip, whether from exchanging advice, expressing vulnerabilities, or learning something about themselves, these two days made an impact on each senior. The goal of this retreat is to have fun, yes, but more importantly, grow closer together as a class and set the tone for those seniors last year at FCS.
Class of 2025, never forget the memories made at this year’s senior retreat.
