Hundreds of high school students head to a dozen local organizations and churches throughout Fresno and Clovis for the 11th annual Serve Day, February 14.
While taking time away from the classroom, students and faculty offer their service to the community, spreading love through serving on Valentine’s Day. As Serve Day is only one day of the school year, the hope is for high schoolers to be encouraged to then go out and serve in some of these organizations on their own time.
Serve Day locations:
ReStore Habitat for Humanity Greater Fresno Area
City Connect: Fresno Rescue Mission
Students reflect on the time spent at the locations they attended and how Serve Day inspires them to keep serving in the community:
Jordyn DeGroot, ‘26
Food Bank
“So I think this was the first Serve Day I feel like I was being helpful and making a difference,” DeGroot said. “We were volunteering for an actual need in our community which is feeding the impoverished! What we were doing had purpose, and we were working the whole time there was no wasted time. I enjoyed an organized working time while having fun with friends!”
Jacob Pimentel, ‘25
Mission Thrift
“This year serving at Mission Thrift was an amazing experience,” Pimentel said. “We got to see how we were helping our community in real time, with either people coming in asking for help, or the staff being super grateful for everything. It’s moments like these that remind me how special Serve Day is, and with this being my last one it’s going to be one of the things I’ll miss most of Fresno Christian. It taught me the impact anyone can have on their community and the importance of using our time to help those in need.”
Trinity Bannister, ‘28
Bethany Church
“My time at Bethany Church for Serve Day was really special, especially since it was my first time going off campus to help,” Bannister said. “Going off campus made everything feel more real and exciting… It felt more hands on, and I got to meet new people and work with them. Being in a different environment made me step out of my comfort zone, but it also made serving feel more meaningful. Overall, it was a really cool experience. It showed me how important it is to help outside of school and connect with new people.”
