Seniors secure powderpuff victory

The lines of red and black adorned with yellow flags crashed together in a frenzy of chaos as the football made its way past the line of scrimmage. With the orange cones drawing closer, a last burst of adrenalines boosts the runner past the defenders and into the end zone.

After surmounting a 13-point deficit, the seniors went on to beat the juniors 33-26 and claim the 2007-2008 Powder Puff trophy on Nov. 16.

“In the first half we started out kind of weak but by the second half we realized that this was our last game and that we had to go all out and take them down.” Melanie Nachtigall, ’08, said. “It [football] is a lot different from the other sports I play, but it’s nice to play a boy’s sport and show them how it’s done”

The Powder Puff tournament pitted the seniors against the freshmen and the sophomores against the juniors for the first round. The seniors beat the freshmen with a score of 24-7 while the juniors outlasted the sophomores 19-14.

“I chose to participate in Powder Puff because all of my friends were doing it,” Amberly Roy, ’09, said. “It’s intense and really fun to go out there and show our aggressive side.”

The sophomores would eventually defeat the freshmen in the second round 18-0.

“It was really nice to get a win, especially after getting fourth place last year and barely losing to the juniors,” Jennifer Boudreau, ’10, said. “It gave me a lot of confidence to know that we were doing something right by getting some good blocking and preventing the freshmen from making their passes to their receivers.”

Rooting on sidelines, the male cheerleaders of each class attempted to bolster their team through their impromptu cheer routines.

“We practice cheerleading for two weeks by throwing Stowe [’11] up in the air as part of our stunt,” Zachary Camden, ’11, said. “I had fun experieince and I plan to do it again next year.”
