Fresno State hosts drama seminar

While students will stay on campus for the normal eight-hour day, upperclassmen in the drama class will travel to California State University Fresno for an open house for the theater arts department, on Dec. 6.

Adviser Tom McEntee, and Old Testament Bible teacher, will take his class for his third year. Members will participate in acting workshops; meet other students, directors and artists who work behind the scenes.

Ani Paparigian, ?09, has been in the drama class for three years, believes the field trip will improve her skills.

?I like the drama class because all of us (the students) are loud and silly and this is the only class where we are allowed to act that way,? Paparigian said. ?I am looking forward to the sixth, because I enjoy drama and the convention will help me to become a better actress and I think it will be fun.?

Three-year drama student, junior Anthony Johnson, has attended workshops in New York and hopes the Fresno State convention can give him some more tips.

?I am looking forward to the class trip, because it is an opportunity to learn new things and it will help me improve my acting skills and become a better actor,? Johnson said. ?I have been acting since first grade, but what I?ve always wanted to do was to be on Broadway. I don?t want to act on TV, because I don?t believe that acting on TV is real acting.?

Although Kelsey Gunner, ?11, has only been in the drama for one semester, she believes more students should join. Gunner thinks the class helps develop communication skills as well as an elective.

?I like drama because the plays are fun to do,? Gunner said. ?In this class the life skills that I?ve learned include public speaking. I also learn how to act in a situation like if a friend asks you if you like their shirt, you can act and say you do even if you don?t. I have a good time when we learn acting principles and improv games like freeze tag.?

This was such a fun game! I really enjoyed playing with the two of you cause that doesn’t happen very often (when we are all on the court at the same time).

Keep up the good work. I can’t wait to make more memories with you our senior year!

    Love ya!
