Senior Caleb Eldridge is rebooting the Fresno Christian EagleCast and continues to bring the community meaningful conversations with students and staff members in this recurring podcast series. Join us as we dive into the lives and complexities of the familiar personalities on this campus. For his next student interview, Eldridge has chosen teachers Diego Alas and Tyler Gianakopulos.

Both of these teachers began as substitute teachers for Fresno Christian, but have since become full-time teachers. Alas took over English 10 halfway through the 2024-2025 school year, but now teaches both English 10 and Bible. Gianakopulos began to sub for elementary and high school leadership, and now teaches high school leadership.
Although Alas lives in Fresno now, it wasn’t always this way. Alas was born in El Salvador, but moved to Los Angeles at the age of three years old. When asked about how the change of moving countries was, his first response was about the sunny weather.
“I don’t remember much, but I do remember it being sunnier here, it rains a lot down in El Salvador.”
Alas is currently in seminary hoping to achieve his goal of getting a Masters of Divinity. When talking about his degree, however, he had an interesting spin on his degree.
“The degree we’re both getting is called a Masters of Divinity, as if you can master the divine,” Alas said, “when it really should be called, one of my professors said, Mastered by Divinity.”
Gianakopulos was born in Clovis, CA, and has lived in Fresno county his entire life. He was a wrestling star at Clovis High School, and continued his wrestling career into college as a mustang at Cal Poly.
“I think I tried almost every sport except basketball,” Gianakopulos said, “but my dad gave me some advice in 6th grade, he told me, ‘Why don’t you just pick one sport and try to get really good at that sport? So I picked wrestling.”
While Gianakopulos is also in seminary, hoping to obtain a Masters of Divinity, his spiritual story is very empowering, as he discussed his testimony in-depth, talking about his struggles and salvation.
“By God’s grace I had a friend, and we went together to the gym one day, and he just graciously started to call out my sin, and that really hit me.”
Both teachers love to teach and hope to continue in the future. Along with this, they both would like to one day have a job in ministry, spreading the love of God and his Word.
