By day, Daniel Peterson works at the Maeva City Police Department as a detective. By night, his alter-ego, Gabriel, watches over the city as its metaphorical guardian angel. Smoke rises on the skyline as houses burst into flames, the police unable to find the cause. Now, it is up to Gabriel to take flight and discover the mysterious threat before the entire city goes up in flames. This is the newest comic created by Meghan Creamier, “Gabriel; Trial by Fire, Issue No. 2.”

From the creator

Gabriel has returned yet again to the Feather page with his second issue; with him are several new faces. Briefly mentioned at the end of the previous issue, Janice Kelsey is Daniel’s friend, coworker and a constant thorn in his side. Sharp as a tack and inquisitive to boot, Janice is a police officer who met Daniel during their time at the police academy. She is a single mom of a little girl named Emmy. She raises Emmy in the sketchy suburbs of Maeva, living paycheck to paycheck. Despite this, she acts as a constant source of wit and lighthearted ease, mellowing out Daniel at work, that is, when she is not getting on his nerves. Her inspiration comes from female characters such as Leslie Thompkins from Gotham and Lois Lane.

The second new character in Gabriel’s tale is the chief of the Maeva police department, Milo Stone. An ex-military man, Chief Stone runs the police department with an iron hand, tolerating zero disrespect. Stone has been on the force since before the rise of the hero workforce and prefers the traditional methods of public service over the ā€œsparkly boy scouts from Hollywood,ā€ as he calls them. Stone was inspired by classic characters such as Jameson from Marvel.

Writing the second comic has been an arduous task. Taking place in the Maeva City Police Department, working on it became a tedious challenge of drawing repetitive pieces. However, I am excited to continue this project, although at times it felt easier to give up. Sometimes, it would be simpler to just close Procreate and do something easier. I am glad I pushed through to get the second issue published. I really appreciate comments and suggestions about the comic. Thank you.
