WSL connects student leaders

Throughout high school, many students focus more on the diploma ahead than the road they took to arrive. Such an idea inspired this year’s West Sierra League (WSL) theme “Live the Journey.”

For the first meeting of the year, the WSL Associated Student Body (ASB) officers traveled to Caruthers High, Sept. 22. As this year’s hosts, the Blue Raiders will plan and run all meetings. From rallies to prom to staff appreciation, these meetings give student leadership a chance to discuss ideas to enhance the high school experience.

“Although the way we shared ideas wasn’t very productive, it was fun to meet new people from other league schools,” junior Tatiana Fontes said. “I hope the next meeting is better structured to explore other ideas.”

Although WSL often converges only for sports, the monthly meetings offer a chance to step outside of athletic barriers.

“Usually, the only time we come in contact with these schools is through sports,” Katie Mendenhall, leadership adviser, said. “I enjoyed having the chance to share ideas outside of competition.”

While in past years, the only cohesive sports-free WSL activity was the annual talent show, a new tradition now ties the schools together. The spirit stick, usually reserved for cheer camp, will now create an atmosphere of unity and competition. At every meeting, schools will face off in a mini-contest; the winner returning home with the spirit stick.

Josiah of course. Eagles are generally faster than Redcats, so the Eagle would get there first.

Then there’s Josiah who is faster than both an eagle and a redcat sooo that solves that question.

We woud have won that game against Fowler but our due to our fatigue we were slower than usual. with Zed and Forrest gone, we only have two subs which enables us to only sub 2 at a time.

That is why we need more people; join the soccer team next year. I know that if more people join, we will hava a good soccer team next year , and we will have more subs.

Of course Josiah makes it first; he’s like lightning on the ground. That cat didn’t even come close!
