The Feather Online will pause its operations for Christmas vacation and resume daily publication after school returns, Jan. 12, 2009. The staff of 42 produced 252 articles over the course of the first semester and published three printed issues.
All articles are available in the archives ? accessed from the “Resources” drop-down menu ? in either the online or hardcopy issues. In addition, the advanced search feature ? located to the right of the standard search bar ? allows readers to narrow down articles or photos by section, subject, date, author and other specifications.
The Feather Online launched a daily online comic entitled “The Teen Age” by staff illustrator Daniel Hopper, in late October. The comics detail the teenage lives of main character Jake and his friend Bradley, as well as Jake’s family comprised of a drama-queen sister, an over-stressed mom and a businessman father. “The Teen Age” comics are available from the right menu button between the Featured Photo and The Pulse.
The video productions class began live broadcasts of home varsity sports games through The Feather Online. This features enables anyone with an Internet connection to watch the Eagles for free. The staff alerts readers of upcoming games with a slide on the front page. The sportscasts are available from the button at the top of the right menu.
After former podcast host and features editor Claire Kister graduated last year, senior Natalie McCallum took the reigns and now anchors “Live a little with Natalie.” Her podcast episodes are available from the right menu button between Live Sports and Daily News.
The Feather Online expects to launch a weekly health fact next semester with advice for young people to maintain healthy lifestyles. This feature will compliment the current “Quote o’ the day” provided at the bottom of the front page.
