Band raises money with spaghetti, concert

The concert and jazz band joined together to host the second annual band fundraising dinner on May 9 in Ground Zero.

“Not only are we offering people a chance to get an awesome meal and entertainment,” Layne Meadows, ’05, said, “we are also giving our friends and family a chance to see how much that we have learned this year.

The bands were raising money for future trips and new music for the upcoming year. They presold over100 tickets and sales continued until dinner time. About 150 people attended the event according Principal Gary Schultz.

“That is a good amount of tickets to be sold ahead of time,” David Pohl, ’03, said, “but we are planning on having a lot more people buying last minute.”

The concert band served a plate of spaghetti that was made by the parents while the jazz band plays music for the audience.

“I am definitely having fun preparing for the big night,” Brandon Nimon, ’03, said. ” I love the feeling of accomplishment I get when I am performing in front of a big audience.”

Each of the students also brought a dessert to auction off to the crowd.

“I am excited for the dinner because it gives me a chance to bake,” Josh Bruce, ’04, said. “I can’t wait to see how much my cake will be sold for.”

Though the fundraiser is for the jazz band, the concert band also participated in this event. According to Schultz, over $1,600 was raised for the two bands.

“We are happy to help the jazz band,” Jon Tantraphol, ’03, said. “this is a big job and they would not be able to put it on alone.”

The fundraiser began at 6:00 p.m with dinner. Tickets were $10 and could also be purchased at the door for $15. Donations to the bands are also welcomed.
